BA-HR is structured as a true partnership with apportioned liability. Important decisions are made at partnership meetings where the partners, as the owners of the firm, discuss key issues.
A Board of Directors – at present comprising Helge Stemshaug (Chairman), Rolf Johan Ringdal, Rune Svoren, Stig L. Bech and Morten P. Smørdal – exercises the normal functions of a board, including overseeing corporate development, strategic planning and supervising the business of the firm. The board has established three special areas of responsibility: communications (Sam E. Harris) and international relations (Rolf Johan Ringdal).
The day-to-day operation of the firm is in the hands of a managing partner, at present Geir Mikalsen, who also manages teams of non-lawyers working in finance, human resources, IT, knowledge management and other areas.
Professional matters – involving the conduct of assignments, recruitment, knowledge transfer, education and career development, among other issues – are handled by the managing partner in consultation with the heads of the various market groups and/or special committees.
