Competition

Our competition team can assist you with all traditional antitrust matters, such as cartel investigations and abuse of dominant position cases. We are also commended for our “extremely good” merger control work, an area in which BA-HR is widely perceived as a leader.

Under the legislative regime in place since 2004, the Norwegian Competition Authority has intervened in around 20 mergers, and opened phase II-investigations in a number of others. BA-HR’s competition team has been involved in a high proportion of these cases. Recent highlights include:

  • Securing clearance of the Media Norge merger
  • Obtaining clearance for the merger between Bankenes Betalingssentral (BBS) and Teller
  • Obtaining clearance for Rema 1000’s acquisition of Lidl

Our team also has extensive experience in handling multi-jurisdictional and ECMR merger filings. Examples include:

  • Strategic advice to Pan Fish/Marine Harvest on gaining merger clearance from both the French and UK authorities
  • Obtaining multi-jurisdictional clearances for Norway Post and Itella's combination of their information logistics activities

Several of our team members have experience from the Norwegian Competition Authority, the EFTA Surveillance Authority and the European Commission.

PLC’s Which Lawyer? guide to top international law firms says: “BA-HR has an excellent competition team.” Meanwhile Chambers Global highlights one of the key factors that gives BA-HR’s competition practice an edge: “The integration of in-house economists into this firm’s competition team is one of its most important distinguishing features.”
