Newsletter oil and gas: The upcoming Norwegian general election

Elections to the Norwegian Parliament (nw: “Stortinget”) are held every four years, and the next election will be held on 11 September 2017. Polls are showing a close race between the blocks, and which parties are likely to form a coalition on any side is still uncertain.

Norwegian politics is largely dictated by political parties and their manifestos. Committees for each party have been working through the past several months to shape their party’s political manifesto for the next four year term. These proposals are put forward for debate and adoption at the party’s national convention. At the time of this newsletter all parties represented in Parliament have held their national conventions except the Green Party (nw: “Miljøpartiet de Grønne”) (the discussion will be based on their most recent committee proposal).

Based mainly on the adopted manifestos this newsletter will present and discuss some of the aspects of the adopted policies that are particularly relevant for the petroleum industry on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
