2018 started out relatively slowly but picked up pace as the Norwegian Competition Authority (NCA) carried out dawn raids in the groceries sectors, authorised a major merger in the Fintech sphere subject to commitments and imposed a record fine upon Telenor, the national telecoms incumbent, for abuse of dominance after an investigation spanning more than 5 years.

As a prelude to the summer break across Europe, we have provided a brief summary of the major headlines from the first six months of this year. All of these matters will be more closely scrutinised in our annual review, to be published in January 2019.
